  2. pixestential Says:

AWESOME!!! I almost cried after upgrading and losing this functionality.

  3. Ian Says:

    You’re the man.

  4. Cassian Says:

Please hurry! i cannot live without it. Leopard sucks without your letterbox

  5. John Lile Says:

I can wait, but I had forgotten how much I appreciate Letterbox. Thanks for the great work.

  6. Carl Says:

Hurry !!…..Mail and Leopard just isn’t the same without it…….possibly the best download I’ve ever tried and kept for Mac……..great work

  7. Christopher Says:

I’d just like to add my bit to the above.

I didn’t realise how much I loved Letterbox until I just did the install of Leopard and had to go back to the standard layout!

It seems such a small thing, but I’d like to personally thank you Aaron for creating Letterbox, and showing us a much better way to use Mail!

    Waiting patiently for the upgrade!

  8. Nicolas Says:

Thanks a lot for this update! Hope it will behere soon because the way I check mail in Leopard now looks soooo messy! I already miss using letterbox.

Again thanks a lot for creating this masterpiece tool! Hero

  9. Letterbox Lover Says:

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Upgraded last night and can’t stand the look of Mail w/o Letterbox!!! Thanks for a quick upgrade.

  10. Stro Says:

Mail without Letterbox is like a plain without wings…

Quite a few Dutch people are missing Letterbox as well.

Keep up the good work, much appreciated!!!

  11. Klein Says:

This is exactly what I wanted to see when this page loaded… You’re awesome. Letterbox = Life for Mail.

  12. Rob Says:

Knowing that Letterbox 0.16 is rated as a “Staff Pick” in apple.com/downloads/ I was quite amazed that Apple did not approach you and offer to include it in Leopard (as they did with the developer of Flurry in Jaguar)

    Anyway I’m waiting patiently

  13. Randy Shulman Says:

It’s the one thing that Mail lacks. It’s the only reason that I came BACK to mail from Entourage. You have created a masterpiece.

  14. Scott C Says:

Chiming in with the chorus of supporters. Signed up for the RSS feed, and still can’t wait. Forgive me while I hammer your page, awating update news.

I also suspect this list would happily beta test for you. Maybe.

  15. Josh R Says:

ditto on all of the above—can’t wait for letterbox on leopard. thanks!!

if you’re up for it, would be awesome to get a 2-line list item in to the messages pane. would be great to have sender, date, size, etc on one line and then the subject on the second line. or some option like that…

  16. Len B Says:

Your plug-in is the only reason why I consider mail.app. I loved the layout of Entourage, but got tired of the delays to go universal and dropped office altogether. But until I found Letterbox, I was reconsidering. If you were to develop even more, the suggestions about the 2-line sender display would be great! I frankly would even pay for your plug-in. Thanks for making it free though! I am new to Apple and have been impressed at all the high quality apps that are free. Apple people are cool!

  17. Jaime L Says:

Been checking this page all day long. Letterbox is that good. If we can help test, like Scott C suggested, let us know. I’d be willing to help. Thanks in advance.

  18. Kalvin Says:

    Like everyone else, love you.

  19. Anthony Says:

As others have said I had forgotten how much I love letterbox

I am have been looking forward to use it w/Leopard that I made a web widget of your blog so I know when it will be ready

  20. James Home Says:

Letterbox is Leopard’s missing spot. just another post of grateful thanks for this beautiful improvement to the application I spend the most time with!

  21. Frank Says:

I’m still crying! Did try the latest upgrade (Letterbox 0.16) but still reports a problem and bundle disabled! I can send you the error message if you like? I’m waiting anxiously!

    Frank

  22. Dave Says:

Aaron, Can you put up a donation button on your site or let us know where we can donate some $$ to you? I’ll certainly pay 10 or 15 bucks for Letterbox. It’s funny how you miss something when it’s “taken” away from you…

  23. Chris Says:

Just appreciate your work ! Can relate to all previous posts….Consider # 22 and Dave’s comments for your quality work and time. Cheers from Australia.

  24. Matt Says:

Howdy Aaron, my hope is that somehow you’ll be able to get this upcoming Leopard update to include that Outlook-style message list with each message on two rows. That would be phenomenal! And I’d be happy to pay for it. Many thanks and take care. We appreciate all your work.

  25. Martin Marconcini Says:

Great Work! :) Mail without Letterbox is ugly ;)

However I can say that I have tried letterbox on my mail install and it works. The only caveat I’ve seen is the MAIL ACTIVITY pane not appearing (despite the show/hide button) But apart from that, it just works™.

    Thanks!

  26. William Says:

    Concur in reagards to Paypal

You just don’t notice how much you rely upon something until it’s gone!

  27. Michael Says:

Aaron, We all love letterbox. I like others would love to donate to you just to say thanks.

  28. natasha Says:

please dear god could you please include a two row interface like entourage has or as this mock up shows: http://flickr.com/photos/joshuabryant/90432666/

    please please please.

is there any reason it can’t be like that?

  29. Scott C Says:

Hang on, hang on. If it means waiting longer (which a 2-line row interface /certainly/ would), I would much rather have the 0.16 one (on leopard) first.

Modifying the row elements of the interface adds another layer of complexity on top of the letterbox rearrangement. Watch the feature creep people .. :)

  30. Cathy Says:

I agree with Scott C! Let’s walk before we run. We ALL love this plugin and just getting it back to it’s old functionality will make (the less gluttonous of) us thrilled! Thanks for your time and effort in giving back. Like others have noted - add a donation button!

  31. Catherine Says:

I have been checking your website at least 10 times in the past 3 days… this is how desperate I am about not having letterbox in Jaguar. The new OS is amazing, but I miss letterbox SO much more than I ever thought I would.

  32. oneighturbo Says:

cant wait for the leopard plug-in!

  33. Letterbox Lover Says:

    PLEASE PLEASE - SOON SOON - Withdrawals - Withdrawals - Can’t go on…………..hurry………..

  34. Rein Bauer Says:

… you didn’t mention which Friday or Saturday? Honestly great plug-in - truly missed.

  35. Pls. Says:

    Go Aaron, go!

  36. seadated Says:

Ditto to all of the above. This was one of my first stops after installing leopard. Thanks for the great work!

  37. Phillip Says:

I really hate using Apple Mail using the default layout. I know Thunderbird allows a three-pane vertical layout - maybe it’s time to jump ship :-( I actually like Entorage, but running it through Rosetta isn’t much fun - and the way it implements identities is prehistoric.

  38. look Says:

    Which Friday/Saturday?????

  39. Alex Says:

    Guys,

I made Letterbox work on Mail.app 3.0 (Leopard). So far no crashes and we can use it until the update comes out.

    Here are the steps:

    1) Make sure that Mail.app is not running 2) Install the latest Letterbox 0.16 3) Open terminal window 4) and run these lines in the command prompt

defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1 defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion 3

I also was able to Mail Act-On to work using the same steps.

I hope that helps you out.

Aaron thanks for all your hard work! Let me know if I can help you.

  40. Alex Says:

Just in case if you need more instructions check this page

    http://www.indev.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1052

  41. Josh Says:

Following those instructions, the current version of Letterbox sort of works. I find that if I resize the mail.app window, the entire application window goes white. It all comes back to the normal Letterbox layout on restart, but, at least for me, using the Tiger version of Letterbox is touchy.

  42. look Says:

    it’s very buggy…

  43. Peter Ong Says:

Just upgraded and already missing it! Can’t imagine using Mail without it! Thanks!

  44. Jane Says:

    Can’t wait. Just luuuuve it!

  45. iPer Says:

In my calendar Friday and Saturday are behind us, far behind us …

  46. Josh Says:

Last Friday and Saturday may be behind you, but I bet your calendar shows another Friday and Saturday coming up at the end of the week. :-)

  47. Jaime L. Says:

I installed the Tiger version of letterbox with the above instructions and it is buggy but functional. But I’d rather see letterbox working than not. Also, I realize that getting the Leopard version out must not have been as easy as Aaron had hoped. I think it is better for it to be my Mail.app behaving buggy than for me to be bugging Aaron. I’ll still keep the RSS feed bookmarked, but I won’t need to check this page seven times a day.

  48. Christopher Says:

Let me know where to send a donation. I am waiting for your update before I install Leopard!

  49. Jeremiah Fyffe Says:

Basically I just want to say thanks for this plugin!

I’m thinking that Apple should just give in … pay you the millions you deserve … so that you won’t have anything to get in your way of keeping letterbox updated … and your thousands of fans happy.

Again, did I say thank you for your work already?

  50. Ken Kalb Says:

Brilliant work - please send soon - yet another fan

  51. Bob Says:

You’ve created a tremendous app! I DREAD spending time in Mail without your plug-in. I’m very anxious … like other.

  52. intotheblue Says:

I have used your plugin for a year, and now being without really makes Mail suck. You are the man.

  53. will Says:

Happy Halloween! Hows the new version coming, any news on when we might all see something?

  54. Rob Says:

I, like most here, am grateful for your work. So much I would pay to have this running in Mail 3.0. Not only that, but I’m waiting for this plugin so I can install Leopard. Right now I run it off an external HD and will not upgrade my main HD until I can use Letterbox. Name the price, I suspect you’ll make some good cash.

    Thank you

P.S. Give us an update on development if you can.

  55. Philippe Says:

I really miss the letterbox in my mail! Any progress on leopard support? thanks a billion.

  56. Kiff Says:

Once again, Aaron, I’m jonesing just like everyone else. YOU MADE A GREAT HACK.

thanks for your time and energy. Apparently I am not alone in enjoying your work. all the best-

  57. jason Says:

Ok - he´s enjoying to see us suffer ….. :(

  58. sacha Says:

Well check out this alternative: http://www.daneharnett.com/widescreen/WidescreenMailPlugin.html

    Looks promising to me….

  59. iridian Says:

Yea thats what i call pissing your customers off ! We know its Freeware and we appreciate it - but dude - we’re losing faith in you ! Hurry up !!!

It’s April 2009, did you just lose interest on longer have the time to continue the project?

    I appears to be wondermous.
