Letterbox for Snow Leopard — Soon
UPDATE: Latest beta is Beta 4 for Snow Leopard.
Good folk,
Keep keeping those pants on. I’m honored by the deluge of requests for Letterbox on Snow Leopard. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to reply to each of you individually.
I now have Letterbox running on Snow Leopard in 32-bit mode, and expect to have a solution for 64-bit Mail soon. I’ll unfortunately be out of town and offline over the holiday weekend here in the US, but should be able to post an update by Tuesday, Sep 8.
After that, there are a few more items in the backlog I’d like to tackle — resolving an incompatibility with other plugins using Sparkle first, and then ye olde two-line display.
cheers, ~aaron

Please also add a donate button on your site or in the program. I’d love to contribute. You’ve made life so much nicer with and deserve some monetary reward.

Thanks for the update. For the time being could you at least post the 32-bit version? I would love to use 32-bit for awhile until you post the update.
Thanks!

Ditto on the donate button. I never realized how much I valued Letterbox until I was forced back to using Mail’s horizontal panes. I’d love to contribute.

Ditto on the Donate button. And I am not even a user of Letterbox yet (though full of excitement and anticipation of the SL version).

Hi Aaron, thanx for keeping us posted about your excellent plugin. I’m a big fan of Letterbox, and after only 4 days running on Snow Leopard I’m going buts on Mail. And yes, please add a donate-button.

Dear Aaron,
Thanks for the great plugin, much appreciated. Dearly missed since switching to Snow Leopard, I can hardly wait.
Have a nice weekend.
P.S. we don’t mind at all if you post the 32Bit version already on Monday.

I’m looking forward to the Snow leopard update! Mail looks rubbish without Letterbox. Keep up the good work and I’d be happy to donate some cash for your troubles.
Thanks again,

Ditto on the donate button.
Have you ever talked to Dane Harnett about his Widemail plugin (http://www.daneharnett.com/widemail/)? He nailed the two-line thing in his Leopard version of giving Mail.app a three column layout. Now on his blog he says he’s struggling with updating to Snow Leopard. Maybe you two can join forces?

Any word on the update yet?
It’s Sept 8th now, and I’m dying to get my Mail usable again.

Really notice how important letterbox is when it’s not there. BTW: Tuesday 8Sept. is almost gone. I hope I don’t sound too whiny/naggy but…
September 9th, 2009 at 3:03 am
Hi Aaron, I am just checking to see if anything new was posted about letterbox since Tuesday is now past
I too really miss letterbox in Snow Leopard and cannot wait to see a working version back again.

Oops- hope the September 9th lunch time in Europe is not a bad sign
Still keeps fingers crossed

Thanks for all your hard work on letterbox, looking forward to the version for Snowy the Leopard. I agree with the others: put up a donation button. Also, here’s to the hope that one day Apple will see the light, put a big bag of money in your lap, and incorporate your idea into mail.

Informed people are patient people. Since the 8th is past, just let us know what is happening.
September 10th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Please post the 32 bit version? Even if it crashes and/or is buggy, there are a vast avalanche of users who would happily put up with that while getting 3-pane versions. A lot of us have XCode experience as well; happy to become a beta tester too. Let me know if you have read-only SVN access available. I will put up my first born.

I had been using Widemail; but you seem to be working harder on Letterbox while communicating your efforts at developing a fix; whereas the other developer is virtually silent; so I’ll be switching to Letterbox;-) The race is on….;-)

Its not hard to tell what our favorite mail plugin is; so pardon our crankiness;-) Good luck with the fix. Cheers

Is the Snow Leopard version ready yet?!?!?!?!?! I’m addicted!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 9:27 am
p.s. Thanks so much for your particular contribution to life on this planet!! : )

Just another happy Letterbox user who is anxious for the SN update. I’m so used to my mail in Letterbox format that the “regular” mail looks freaky! I check back here every day to see in SN version is available yet.

I’ve been using LETTERBOX since I became a Mac convert 2 years ago.
I love the way it displays horizontally and would like to see the Snow Leopard version. I’m not pushing but, it would be nice to see my mail in the oh-so-comfortable display.
Maybe you could give us a way to provide contributions, for the time you spend making our lives so much more pleasant.
Thank you for the program.

Hello Arron,
Just so you are aware, the latest update to Mail 4.2 (1007) appears to disable your plugin.
I have only been a user of your plugin for a few months and am hooked … so please fix it as soon as you are able!
You can add another vote for contributions from me too, while we’re here.
All the best, David.

I agree with David O. you are doing a great job of maintaining the one ‘must have’ feature that mail does not have. Please put a donation section to your website. Even if it was just .99 cents there must be tens of thousands of us that would gladly donate.
Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
